Helen Mirren made headlines by rocking a bikini at age 63. However, it wasn’t just her bold fashion choice that got attention – everyone wondered what her secret was to looking so amazing in the skimpy swimwear.
Luckily, the Oscar-winning actress has finally revealed her exercise secrets. She told Hello! magazine that she does a special 12-minute workout to stay looking so youthful and fit. However, she admits that she doesn’t always stick to the plan. “Just this morning I started my exercises, which I haven’t been doing for months, maybe years,” she said.
Short workouts are all the rage these days, but Mirren isn’t doing a HIIT (high intensity interval training) routine comprised of tough moves like burpees and kettlebell swings. Instead she follows the Royal Canadian Air Force exercise plan. It was created for the male and female members of the Air Force during the 1950s, and it mostly consists low-impact exercises that don’t require any weights.
Fit450.com reveals that the workout routine is called the XBX plan, and it was created by Dr. Bill Orban. There are 4 different charts of ten exercises, and they different list goals to meet based upon age. You only have to perform the exercises three days a week.
Based on Helen Mirren’s age, here’s a look at the exercises she’s doing and how long she’s doing them:
-Toe touches (two minutes)
-Knee raising (two minutes)
-Lateral bending (two minutes)
-Arm flinging (two minutes)
-Sit-ups (two minutes)
-Chest and leg raising on the floor (one minute)
-Side-leg raising (one minute)
-Push-ups (two minutes)
-Leg-overs (one minute)
-Running in place with 10 semi-squat jumps after every fifty counts (three minutes)
This simple workout routine not a big calorie-blaster, but at least it will get you moving. If Helen Mirren endorses it, it’s definitely worth a shot.
